Safe Fuel Storage at Home
You can legally store up to 30 litres of petrol at home, but it must be done safely
Fuel is highly flammable, so storage location is critical
Store fuel in one of the following approved locations:
A shed
A garage
Outdoors, at least 6 metres away from your house (for example, at the end of a driveway)
Always keep fuel containers away from heat sources, sparks, and direct sunlight
Use only approved containers designed for fuel storage
Proper Care for Metal Jerry Cans
Store in a well-ventilated, dry area out of direct sunlight
Regularly inspect the lid seal and pourer seal — these are wear items and should be replaced if cracked or worn
Check the powder-coated exterior for scratches or chips; clean and touch up exposed areas to prevent rust
